About Us
John Newman Bodyworks is proud to be celebrating 50 years this year. The business was founded by John Newman, a young man with big ambitions and strong support from the people of Gamlingay. He began by renting a small workshop at Empson Garage in the village centre, but it wasn’t long before the space became too small.
When a two-acre farm at Mill Hill came up for sale, John seized the opportunity, purchasing and developing the site which has remained home to the business ever since. Over the years, the workshops have expanded significantly, with additional land purchased to accommodate growth.

At John Newman Bodyworks, investing in people is at the heart of the business. Technicians are fully qualified to current industry standards, and continuous training is a priority. With the rapid growth of electric and hybrid vehicles, the team are fully trained to safely and effectively carry out these specialist repairs. Developing skills and supporting professional growth not only strengthens the team, but also ensures customers continue to receive the highest quality service.

Our proudest moment came in 2025, when the company was named ABP British Bodyshop of the Year. To achieve this recognition in their 50th year made it all the more special. Running a business is never plain sailing and always has its ups and downs, but to have built a business of this scale, with such an amazing team, is something John and the family are incredibly proud of.
But it didn't end there... fast forward a year and we were awarded the top prize for the second year running and named ABP British Bodyshop of the Year 2026.
